Trainer Richard Lim enjoyed a day out at the Selangor Turf Club last Sunday not only producing a winning treble but also taking out the RM200,000 Listed 3YO Sprint Championship with Elite Prince and the stable will be represented with some genuine contenders this Saturday on the eleven-race card.
The first of those appear in Race 2 where three-year-old LEGEND SIXTY-THREE makes his Class 5 debut and strikes a winnable contest for his fifth run in the country. Coming off a couple of minor placings against Class 4 company prior to his unplaced run here two weeks ago, the gelding looks well placed to strike in Malaysia for the first time. It will pay to forgive the gelding’s most recent effort considering he was tightened for racing room and was checked momentarily in the home straight.
Another Richard Lim runner worth considering is ELITE BOY, engaged in a 1700m Class 4A contest (Race 6). The four-year-old had no luck for his local debut when caught wide throughout in a 1400m Open Novice on May 17. The former Australian galloper broke his maiden tag in September last year winning by 4.5 lengths over 1700m prior to spelling and from a better draw, he is a chance to break the Malaysian duck. All of the runners in this race, with the exception of RODA ROBOT which has won twice over the journey, are relatively unproven over 1700m which will places ELITE BOY at an advantage.
PACIFIC COMMANDER came up trumps in a 1200m Class 4A contest here two weeks ago to win its second race in the country. The unplaced favorite in that event was WINS ONE which is a genuine chance to reverse the result when the pair clash in the 1400m Class 3 contest (Race 8). Based on current riding weights, if apprentice M Akmazani claims at least one kilogram, then WINS ONE will drop a whopping 8.5kg compared to PACIFIC COMMANDER who will drop 3.5kg after the Jerlyn Seow claim. Additionally, WINS ONE has already won over 1400m previously. The horse to watch is FILIAL DRAGON which went down by a nose here last Sunday and scored off a seven day back up here three starts ago on April 27.
HEALTHY BABY has been a model of consistency for the Jason Ong stable and the six-year-old can bounce back to winning form in the 1500m Class 5A (Race 10). Since winning his first race in the country by 3.25 lengths on April 27, HEALTHY BABY has finished runner up in two outings since, including a nose defeat here last weekend. TANTHEMAN has been threatening to win a race in Malaysia but has the tendency to give away big starts. The five-year-old has flown home from rearward positions in each of his four local runs, finishing third on three occasions and is due to strike a blow provided he receives ample racing room to wind up.
