RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: SCOTTSVILLE@2024.09.01

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 01.09.2024, Race 1, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R115,000, 12:35GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary: Some well related first timers in the race so keep an eye on the betting. QUERARI ROSE (4) made a smart debut over the distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville where she had all of PANTHERA UNICA (5) and MAGIC MAVERICK (8) close-up but behind her. There is not likely to be much between these three. LADY LANCELOT (9) appears to be making progress and can feature while of the first timers, PRINCESS GOLDIE (7) makes some appeal. (Andrew Harrison: 4-8-5-9).

Selections:

#4 QUERARI ROSE, #8 MAGIC MAVERICK, #5 PANTHERA UNCIA, #9 LADY LANCELOT

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 01.09.2024, Race 2, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R115,000, 13:10GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary: CLAUDE MONET (10) has drawn a touch wide but found steady market support second time out but was out-paced late. The step up in trip should suit. KOLA TONIC (7) was a beaten favourite last run after a smart previous showing. He can do better this trip with visiting jockey Marco van Rensburg aboard. CHIEF RUNNER (1) is a very well related first timer. He has the best of the draw and definitely one to watch in the market. AMOR FATI (2) has shown some promise in his first three outings for Frank Robinson and the step up in trip could be what he is looking for. (Andrew Harrison: 10-7-1-2).

Selections:

#10 CLAUDE MONET, #7 KOLA TONIC, #1 CHIEF RUNNER, #2 AMOR FATI

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 01.09.2024, Race 3, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R120,000, 13:45GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary: Alec Laird is having some success in KZN as he ducks the hard ground on the Highveld and saddles the lightly raced NEW MEXICO (2) who takes a rather steep rise in the handicap but could well be up to the challenge. He ran a cracker behind the useful Office In Command last time out coming off a win on this course. He only has 52.5kg to shoulder and Muzi Yeni in the saddle. Dean Kannemeyer has three competitive runners and judged on jockey bookings the recent winner ROSH KEDESH (8) with Craig Zackey aboard looks the pick. He is 3kg better off with both STRATHCLYDE (9) given their last meeting and 1kg better off with IBUTHO (4) both of which are in with winning chances. THE SHEPHERD (1) can be tricky at the start and lost his rider last time out. He is useful on his day. (Andrew Harrison: 2-8-1-9).

Selections:

#2 NEW MEXICO, #8 ROSH KEDESH, #1 THE SHEPHERD, #9 STRATHCLYDE

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 01.09.2024, Race 4, Gallops, 1750m, Turf, R130,000, 14:20GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary: BLACKBERRY MALT (3) has come to hand again and was a close-up second on this course last time out. Calvin Habib stays with the ride for Glen Kotzen and they can go one better. Laird and Yeni team up with the lightly raced BIRTHRIGHT (2). He gets lumps of weight from the entire field and showed his wellbeing with a close-up second early last month. WICCAN WARRIOR (1) is smart on his day but has not been out since April. Gareth van Zyl has stepped him up to a trip in spite of the rest which suggests that he is doing well in the home gallops. POSITIVE ATTITUDE (7) has his first run for Dennis Bosch but has also been rested. He is likely to need this outing given his previous efforts over ground. (Andrew Harrison: 3-2-1-7).

Selections:

#3 BLACKBERRY MALT, #2 BIRTHRIGHT, #1 WICCAN WARRIOR, #7 POSITIVE ATTITUDE

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 01.09.2024, Race 5, Gallops, 1750m, Turf, R110,000, 14:55GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary: Competitive handicap. RICCARDO (6) has shown steady recent form and was close-up from a wide draw over course and distance last time out. Dennis Bosch and Rachel Venniker have a good record together and Riccardo can add to that. CONNOISSEUR (3) has been improving again and should be close to his best this time around for Duncan Howells. JAZZ FESTIVAL (8) has improved since Mark Dixon added blinkers and he goes well on this course. SHOTGUN WILLIE (7) is lightly raced but is another that has come to hand of late. (Andrew Harrison: 6-3-8-7).

Selections:

#6 RICCARDO, #3 CONNOISSEUR, #8 JAZZ FESTIVAL, #7 SHOTGUN WILLIE

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 01.09.2024, Race 6, Gallops, 1750m, Turf, R110,000, 15:30GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary: NIGHJAR (3) came in for a ton of market support last time out but the gamble came up short. With a more experienced rider aboard over a more suitable trip he can pay back some of the losses. GLOBAL MOVEMENT (2) has come to hand of late and was beaten less than a length by the progressive Mike’s Mazarin last time out. ALLAROUNDTHEWORLD (4) is always game although his best recent form has been on the poly. LADIES WORLD (9) is another with recent poly form and has done well in her two starts out of the maidens. The form of her last run has held up and she must have a decent winning chance. (Andrew Harrison: 3-2-4-9).

Selections:

#3 NIGHTJAR, #2 GLOBAL MOVEMENT, #4 ALLAROUNDTHEWORLD, #9 LADIES WORLD

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 01.09.2024, Race 7, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R110,000, 16:05GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary: Tricky handicap. HOT STRIKE (5) has been taking on stronger of late by Mark Dixon’s mare has not been far back. The drop in class and distance can see her back in the winner’s enclosure. ASPOESTERTJIE (2) has come to hand recently and should be super fit as she steps up to a mile. BLUSH OF DAWN (4) has been well placed by Garth Puller and after six wins is still near the bottom of the handicap. Her recent form has been on the poly but she will have a strong chance in this line-up. VERMACILLI (1) showed up well at long odds over the distance last run from a tough draw. She has the best gate here and a handy galloping weight. (Andrew Harrison: 5-1-4-2).

Selections:

#5 HOT STRIKE, #1 VERMACILLI, #4 BLUSH OF DAWN, #2 ASPOESTERTJIE

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 01.09.2024, Race 8, Gallops, 1100m, Turf, R115,000, 16:45GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary: PHILISPIEL (11) is a short-cut specialist and was narrowly beaten over course and distance last time out. Michael Roberts has booked 4kg claimer Brevan Plaatjies for the ride and the youngster can make all. RAFA’S BOY (1) is a lightly raced five-year-old who is struggling off his current mark. However, he has shown flashes of ability and at best he could have the measure of this field. JET LEGACY (3) got the better of Philispiel in a tight finish last time out but is now 3.5kg worse off taking the apprentice allowance into account which should see the tables turned. CONNERY (4) comes off a maiden win in the Cape but he had shown steady from leading up to that win. He also gets 4KG claimer up and the Cape form could prove stronger than local. (Andrew Harrison: 11-4-1-3).

Selections:

#11 PHILISPIEL, #4 CONNERY, #1 RAFA’S BOY, #3 JET LEGACY

Best Win: #6 RICCARDO

Best Value Bet: #3 NIGHTJAR

Best Longshot: #4 BLUSH OF DAWN
