This year’s G1 Tunku Gold Cup seems to be one of the most open races in recent years, with several contenders having strong winning chances.

Brazilian jockey Bernardo Pinheiro will reunite with 2022 winner AWESOME STORM, who returned to top form with a 3.5-length victory over 1400m two weeks ago. The duo finished runner-up behind SAN ANDREAS in last year’s Cup, with SAN ANDREAS not winning since then.

Progressive contender, SHIMI GO, possesses the speed to outshine his more seasoned rivals and, despite returning from a two-month break, seems well placed with a weight of 54kg. G1 Penang Gold Cup victor, CHEVAL BLANC, has been freshened since his narrow defeat behind last week’s derby winner Trumpy, while stablemate CHINESE TEA holds promise.

GAMESTONKS appeared to lack race fitness when resuming two weeks ago and could potentially deliver immediate Group success for new trainer Leck Kai Jin on his debut.
