The winner of the last race at Kranji for 2023, promising three-year-old colt Silo, will not return for races in 2024. Instead, he will continue his career in Hong Kong for owner Constance Cheng of the TOAST Racing Trust.
As Kranji’s closure looms in October, trainers, jockeys, and horses are steadily leaving, and Silo is the latest to join the increasing number of departures.
“That was Silo’s last race, he’s done here,” said trainer Stephen Crutchley in an article published by The New Paper on January 1, 2024. “He’s going to Hong Kong to continue his racing career there, and I’m sure he’ll measure up. He’s booked to fly out on Feb 29.”
Undoubtedly, Silo was poised to be a strong contender, possibly favourite, in all three legs of the upcoming Three-Year-Old Challenge. Winning jockey Vlad Duric firmly believed the colt could have clinched victory in the Guineas.
However, Silo’s connections will now have the opportunity to compete for higher prize money in Hong Kong. It’s anticipated that Silo will make his debut there, likely in May or June.
Silo heads to Hong Kong as a three-time winner and four-time place-getter from seven career starts, with freshman trainer Mark Newnham selected as Silo’s new trainer.
