Jockey AM Aizat has been handed a six-month suspension for his handling of Joker Nine Six, which finished second place, in Race 10, a Class 4B over 1400 meters, held on Sunday, December 3rd, at Selangor.

On Friday, December 8th, 2023, at the Selangor Turf Club, the Stewards concluded an inquiry into the running and handling of JOKER NINE SIX. They gathered evidence from Jockey AM Aizat, the rider of the gelding.

The Stewards reviewed the footage of the incident and considered the evidence presented. Jockey AM Aizat (JOKER NINE SIX) was found guilty of a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The specifics of the charge indicate that:

Between the 500 meters and the early part of entering the straight, he shifted JOKER NINE SIX into a racing line directly behind another runner, INTENT (App H Haikal), despite a clear run being available ahead of him prior to the shift, as well as a clear run being available outside of INTENT.

Between approximately the 450 meters and leaving the 400 meters, after taking a racing line behind INTENT, his riding was passive, lacking in vigor, and unresponsive to INTENT gaining an advantage over JOKER NINE SIX.

After shifting out for clear running leaving the 400 meters, from this point to the 200-meter mark, despite having the opportunity to ride with the necessary vigor, his riding again lacked assertiveness, was passive, and lacked vigor in response to INTENT.

When determining the penalty, the Stewards considered mitigating factors presented by Jockey AM Aizat, his previous riding record, and his submissions regarding the penalty. Consequently, he has been suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) months, effective from December 11th, 2023, to expire on June 10th, 2024, both dates inclusive. Additionally, he was fined RM20,000/- and informed of his Right of Appeal.
