Malaysian jockey Wong Chin Chuen, commonly known as CC Wong, is facing a lengthy ban after stewards imposed a four-month suspension following an inquiry into his handling of War Frontier in Race 9 last weekend.
Wong was charged with not riding to the stewards’ satisfaction. Between the 400m and 300m, and in the concluding stages, he was deemed to have failed to ride with sufficient vigor and determination. Furthermore, he was found guilty of not improving between Maze and The Jun from the 400m to the 300m. War Frontier finished third, beaten 2.6 lengths, in the Class 5 event over 1000m.
Wong’s suspension starts this Sunday, 8 October, and lasts until February 7, 2024. However, he has lodged an appeal and applied for a stay of sentence.
This charge marks the most serious incident in the career of the former two-time Singapore champion apprentice, who has risen to fame after riding Singapore’s best horse, Lim’s Kosciuszko, to five Group 1 wins.
He is charged under the Malayan Racing Association Rule 44(10), which states: ‘Any Jockey who fails to ride his horse to the satisfaction of the Stewards may be warned, fined, and/or suspended.’
