Trainer Mike De Kock has sent out some high-class two-year-olds with colt Gimmeanotherchance leading the brigade who in his words appears to be a ‘Guineas type’.
But Silver Hunt has avoided the frantic nature of the juvenile pattern races and she runs in Race 4, at Turffontein on Tuesday, a Maiden Plate for fillies and mares over 1800m on the Inside track.
She was given a quiet sprint introduction when finishing in the bottom half of the field. That form line has proven quite strong with multiple winners coming from the race. She then caught the eye with a fast-finishing second behind Candice Dawson’s highly regarded Master Of My Fate filly My Soul Mate. The latter is headed for better things and Silver Hunt could be a fair sort in the making herself.
She meets hard-knocking elders but the best of them have battled to pick up a race and Silver Hunt should really show her field a clean pair of heels.
There has been plenty money for Aunt Pittypat recently and she could be the Exacta horse.
The early races have some form but there are also well-bred first timers in those, and it should pay to follow the money. Young trainer Tony Peter, like his father, has a knack for sending out youngsters ready to win and his comment on Wonder I Do, in Race 2, is ‘Working Well’.
Swingers with Duenna and Gotcha Buzz, who have shown useful potential, could be the way to go.
Trainer Johan Janse Van Vuuren looks to have a stranglehold on Race 3, a Middle Stakes over 1200m, where he sends out four runners.
Moonshiningthrough ran a nice race after a rest and heads the best-weighted column but stable elect appears to be Fostinovo with jockey Gavin Lerena up. Fostinovo has been most unlucky not to win recently but he has gate No 1 and should fight it out with his stablemate. Include Dancetilldaylight who has dropped in the ratings and offers value with a carded 2.5kg claim pushing her past Moonshiningthrough as best weighted.
Quiet Rebellion (dropping in class) and Nazare (taken a while to mature) rate value propositions in Race 6 and Race 8 respectively.
