As Kranji closes, Selangor will soar

With news filtering through that one of the four Malayan Racing Association (MRA) race tracks in Kranji is set to be redeveloped for housing, the officials at the other three MRA race clubs would be rubbing their hands with joy with what appears to be a massive injection coming their way.

With more than 700 race horses expected to be disbursed into the remaining three MRA clubs, and a quality line-up of trainers and jockeys looking to ply their trade, the Selangor, Perak and Penang Turf Clubs will be anxious for 2025 to roll around fast to welcome new blood.

The heritage and commitment to horse racing at these three turf clubs remain strong and entrenched in the culture. As the horse population doubles, so will the benefits of marketing a racing product for international simulcasts worldwide, transitioning from one racecourse to another with almost seamless motion.

In Singapore, horse racing will continue to be simulcast seven days per week by Singapore Pools. Hong Kong Racing and the Selangor Turf Club are expected to lead the way but will be supported by Perak, Penang, Australia, South Africa, France, the UK, Japan and South Korea, plus more. Local racing fans will be spoilt for choice at a local betting shop or in the comfort of their homes via the horse racing channel.

Regionally, for those wanting the action close up, there is a short drive across the border to Malaysia, where the racing tradition will be bigger and better than ever.
