Trainer Gavin Smith’s string of three-year-olds is impressive and in the fillies’ category he has the classy Ekoria returning for him on Tuesday at Fairview
The Futura filly comes back from a 109-day break and clearly has bigger plans in the immediate but if fit and well she is going to prove a tough nut to crack in Race 7, a FM 90 Handicap over 1200m on the turf.
Ekoria has won three of her five starts to date and was particularly impressive in her two wins over the course and distance.
The 64kg she is carded to carry will be offset by 4kg claiming Siyanda Sosibo. This young apprentice has been impressive so far and is worth ever kilo of his claim.
Trainer Sharon Kotzen has been in extremely good form of late and she does not win races too often with debutantes so clearly Peach Daiquiri must be considered a possible danger.
The Vercingetorix filly won as a late two-year-old when heavily backed and although the runner-up has done the form no real favours since then, Kotzen clearly thinks highly of this filly.
Whenever a Gavin Smith-trained runner is at the top of the betting boards you can be sure rival trainer Alan Greeff will be having a go to beat him and consistent Red Berry has a winning chance.
This filly has been in good form all year and will be doing her best work at the finish.
Earlier on in the card, in Race 2 to be precise, Lemme Go under jockey Muzi Yeni should go one better on her good local debut.
