Former Singapore star galloper THE INFERNO failed to live up to the hype at his Australian debut when he lined up the second favourite $4.60 at Caulfield racecourse on Saturday the 14th of August.
Starting from barrier 10, THE INFERNO began well and settled in second place outside the leader and eventual winner PINTOFF ($5.00) but with 300m to go the Cliff Brown trained five-year-old was clearly under pressure, on empty and going backwards.
Crossing the line in 6th place THE INFERNO will no doubt come on from the run having not raced for 293 days, since winning the Lion City Cup (G1) in October 2020. However it’s now debatable whether he can recapture the form that catapulted him to stardom in Singapore, where he had won 8 of his 9 career starts.
