Tenpenny to stay on the up

Tenpenny “十元”

Racing at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Wednesday offers a calm before the Grade 1 Cape Fillies Guineas storm, with small fields and a few apprentice events. Race 4 over 1500m has drawn particular interest. Tenpenny, trained by Patrick Kruyer and partnered by JP van der Merwe, has always shown upward potential and holds a weight advantage over Handsome Prince, whom he defeated over 1400m at Durbanville in October. Handsome Prince remains a danger after pushing Grade 1 favourite Gimmie Rules to the line, but on paper Tenpenny should maintain the edge.

La Pulga, back from a seasonal debut, is also of interest. Having turned his career around last summer, he holds nominations for the L’Ormarins Kings Plate and Cape Town Met and should feature over 1500m under Sean Veale. Major Master and Goodnessgraciousme complete the shortlist in this intriguing affair.

Elsewhere on the card, Digby sets the standard over 1000m in race 1, looking overdue to shed his maiden. Apprentice races feature Hiawatha Goldberg over 1600m and Lovers Lane over 1200m, both showing promise and consistency. Sommerstern stands out over 1500m with a sharp turn of foot, while Master Of Paris drops in class over 2200m and looks capable of taking advantage. Givethatmanabells and Gold Giboski are also well-placed to find the winners’ enclosure in races 6 and 8.

Wednesday’s meeting offers several progressive runners to watch, but Tenpenny remains the one to follow as he aims to continue his upward trajectory.
