RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: TURFFONTEIN STANDSIDE@2025.07.06

Turffontein Standside, 06.07.2025, Race 1, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R120.000, 12:45GMT+2

Race Summary: ALTA CAPITANA was outrun late by PRINCESS KEIRA over track and trip last time but should turn the tables on 2kg better terms. The latter is a Reserve Runner in a 2yo Grade 2 on HWB Durban July day. EIGHT HATS didn’t go unnoticed in a 1200m Grade 1 last time, staying on well after early interference to be beaten a little over 5 lengths. On the evidence of that performance, she could have more to offer stretching out to this distance. It is interesting to note regular rider Phila Mxoli partners stablemate LET’S GO LOLA instead. OPEN SESAME would’ve come on from her debut and should have a say.

Selections: #3 Eight Hats, #9 Open Sesame, #1 Alta Capitana, #7 Princess Keira

Turffontein Standside, 06.07.2025, Race 2, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R130.000, 13:20GMT+2

Race Summary: BLIZZARD QUEST justified market support when stepped up in trip on his reappearance as a gelding and should have more to offer. JAN VAN GOYEN was outrun late over 1160m by SHADOWFAX last time and is weighted to avenge that defeat on 3kg better terms. However, this extended distance will likely favour the latter who is good value to confirm his superiority. NYAKA NYAKA wasn’t beaten far by that pair last time and should again acquit himself competitively. Maiden RADIO STAR, 2nd in both starts over this track and trip, isn’t taken lightly in receipt of 3kg.

Selections: #4 Shadowfax, #2 Jan Van Goyen, #1 Blizzard Quest, #7 Radio Star

Turffontein Standside, 06.07.2025, Race 3, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R150.000, 13:55GMT+2

Race Summary: SON OF RAJ is weighted to be competitive but he’s also a Reserve Runner in the HWB Durban July, so his participation could be in doubt. FIRE ‘N FLAMES was outclassed in a KZN Grade 1 last month but will be more competitive at this level under these conditions. GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE has found form recently and another 3-point drop in the ratings should stand him in good stead. RADICCHIO had excuses for finishing behind that rival last time and deserves a reward for his consistency. SILENT WAR has a bit to find at the weights but is dangerous to discount under 50kg.

Selections: #4 Radicchio, #2 Fire ‘N Flames, #6 Silent War, #3 Gimmeanotherchance

Turffontein Standside, 06.07.2025, Race 4, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R95.000, 14:30GMT+2

Race Summary: Promising 2yo CONSTELLATION wasn’t winning out of turn last time when fitted with a tongue-tie. With further improvement likely, he could be leniently treated so it could pay to follow his progress. Older rivals IT’S PERSONAL and HEMISPHERE are closely matched – both have the form and experience to challenge the youngster. Returning SEA WOLF and course-and-distance winner LONELY AS A CLOUD complete the shortlist.

Selections: #4 Constellation, #2 It’s Personal, #3 Hemisphere, #1 Sea Wolf

Turffontein Standside, 06.07.2025, Race 5, Gallops, 1100m, Turf, R150.000, 15:05GMT+2

Race Summary: Best-weighted fillies WHISTLE THE TUNE and CHASING HAPPINESS acquitted themselves very well in a 1200m Grade 1 five weeks ago. The latter finished a close-up 4th and 1.10 lengths ahead of her familiar foe who is 2.5kg better off. Both will play leading roles if reproducing those performances. Consistent QUANTUM THEORY deserves to get his head in front after 3 consecutive runner-up finishes, while course-and-distance winner DREAMLAND also has legitimate Eachway credentials. TAXI TO THE MOON (in first-time blinkers), READY TO CHARGE and CHOCOLATE SOLDIER can get into the picture too.

Selections: #1 Chasing Happiness, #8 Whistle The Tune, #7 Quantum Theory, #6 Dreamland

Turffontein Standside, 06.07.2025, Race 6, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R100.000, 15:40GMT+2

Race Summary: WAR REPORTER sparked signs of improvement last time when finishing 4th having dropped slightly in the ratings so another forward showing is expected off a slightly reduced mark. FLAG BEARER and FUTUREWOLFF are consistent and versatile hard-knockers with the form and experience over this trip to trouble the selection. ROSY LEMON fits a similar profile and shouldn’t be written off, especially over a distance she enjoys. Lightly raced SKY PILLAR ROCK has earning potential too.

Selections: #2 War Reporter, #6 Rosy Lemon, #3 Futurewolff, #5 Flag Bearer

Turffontein Standside, 06.07.2025, Race 7, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R250.000, 16:15GMT+2

Race Summary: CHOISAANADA is bidding to complete the Highveld’s 3yo Winter Series cleansweep and bank the cool R500,000 bonus for connections. On the evidence of his 1st and 2nd Leg victories over HWB Durban July runners Immediate Edge and Confederate, he could be better suited to this extended distance. However, he’ll have to produce another career-best performance to lower the colours of top-rated (best-weighted) FIRE ATTACK who was 2nd in a course-and-distance Grade 1 before beating older rivals en route to Grade 1 glory when last seen in March. MUSICAL SCORE, PUMPKIN PIE and KAMENSKY complete the shortlist.

Selections: #1 Fire Attack, #3 Choisaanada, #4 Kamensky, #6 Pumpkin Pie

Turffontein Standside, 06.07.2025, Race 8, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R100.000, 16:50GMT+2

Race Summary: Promising RED AMBER is a Reserve Runner in a 2yo Grade 2 on HWB Durban July day but will acquit herself well if taking her place in this lineup. She is weighted to be competitive and has scope for improvement so is probably better than rated. Hard-knocking veterans ALABAMA ANNA, AFTER HOURS, LIBECCIO and TWICE AS WILD have the form and experience to trouble the youngster. Recent course-and-distance maiden winner CHIEFTAIN’S SHIELD and returning COMMANDER OF ALL aren’t taken lightly either.

Selections: #7 Red Amber, #3 Alabama Anna, #6 Chieftain’s Shield, #4 Guerilla Warfare

Best Win: #1 FIRE ATTACK

Best Value Bet: #3 EIGHT HATS

Best Longshot: #3 EIGHT HATS
