Race Preview

Race 1 – PRIX VESPER –  2400m CLM CL3. Purse EUR €16,000.

  1. ROYAL RIGHT – Was a placegetter first-up last start over 2400m at this track, beaten 1.5 lengths. Back in good shape and is a genuine hope.
  2. TALAP – Had been close to the mark before breaking through last time over today’s journey at this track. No reason he cannot get the job done again.
  3. HALIMI – Finding it hard to make an impact this campaign, last start finishing 6 lengths away in eighth over 2500m on turf here. Can turn that form around in this suitable contest.
  4. ILIAS – Has not raced since he closed the last campaign with a win over 2000m at Most (Czech Republic) three-and-a-half months ago. Has a strong record when fresh. Can play a major role.
  5. WATCH IT – Has only recorded one win and one placing from 13 career runs. Well held last time when sixth over 2150m on turf here. Can sneak into the money this time around.
  6. ROYAL MONARCH – Placed two starts back at Marseille Vivaux but couldn’t back that up when unplaced over 2150m on turf here last time. Likely to find this out of reach.

Summary: This could prove a fairly good opportunity for HALIMI (3) down in grade. Notable claims having finished a solid sixth in the Listed Prix Arcangues over 2500m at Deauville AW two starts ago. TALAP (2) had ROYAL RIGHT (1) back in third when winning a similar course and distance claiming handicap ten days ago. The former is selected to uphold the form with confidence high although the latter should give a good account once more. Czech raider ILIAS (4) must enter calculations.

Selections

HALIMI (3) – TALAP (2) – ROYAL RIGHT (1) – ILIAS (4)

Race 2 – PRIX HENRI ROSSI –  1600m HCP CL2. Purse EUR €50,000.

  1. DAR TOUNGI – Five-year-old gelding who has a poor winning strike rate but rarely far away, the latest placed at this course and distance. Racing well and looks close to a win.
  2. WONDER BOY – Has been thereabouts without winning, last start finishing second over 1300m at this track. Rates highly.
  3. TOTAL KNOCKOUT – Resumed over 1600m at this track last start and finished 9 lengths away in fifth. Rates highly and should do much better.
  4. RIDWAAN – Has been out of the money recently including last time when fourth over 1600m at this track two weeks ago, beaten 1.4 lengths. Expect he will make amends.
  5. J’ACCLAME – Has just missed the top-three at her last few runs, the latest when fifth beaten 3 lengths over 1600m at this track. Has the ability to be in the finish.
  6. ETATIQUE – Yet to break through this campaign but hasn’t been far away including a last start second over 1500m on turf here. Should be right in the mix again.
  7. APOLLO – Returned from a spell last start with a solid second, beaten 2.5 lengths at this track over 1600m. Fitter and is a leading contender.
  8. MAD WHIP – Last appeared when he finished 11th over 2150m on turf here on January 16. Will need plenty of improvement to feature.
  9. GAME RUN – Placed two starts back at Deauville All Weather before struggling to win in easier grade here (turf) over 1500m last time. Hard to see him winning this with form like that.
  10. HEYTESBURY LANE – Scored two starts back but was below her best last time when 7 lengths away in ninth over 1300m at this track. Better than the last run suggests so worth another chance.
  11. HELLO CHARLY – Lightly raced four-year-old gelding who recorded an impressive win when resuming last start over 1500m on turf here. Holds claims.
  12. HEAL THE WORLD – Handy entire who is racing well, including a win last start over 1500m at Deauville All Weather. One of the major players.
  13. SAPHIRA DREAM – Has been very ordinary since winning at Baden-Baden (Germany) four starts back. Beaten 11 lengths when sixth over 1600m at this track last start. Prepared to overlook.
  14. ELECTROSCOPE – Raced below his best last time out when eighth over 1500m here on turf. Yet to fire on this surface so he has the job ahead.
  15. MUELHEIMER PERLE – Has just missed the top-three at her last few runs, the latest a fifth over 1600m at this track beaten 3 lengths. Needs to step up.
  16. TWO THANK YOUS – Has been out of the money of late including last time when seventh over 1600m at this track two weeks ago, beaten 5 lengths. Not keen.

Summary: DAR TOUNGI (1) has run well on the last three starts including when runner-up in a Class Two conditions event over track and trip last month. Strong claims back in handicap company having placed off this mark at Chantilly AW two back. Three-time course winner WONDER BOY (2) looms a major threat under Soumillon following a 1.25L conditions second over 1300m here (AW). Include. There could be more to come from APOLLO (7) on handicap debut while HEAL THE WORLD (12) cannot be dismissed after a Class Three handicap win at Deauville AW latest. ETATIQUE (6) holds each-way claims.

Selections

DAR TOUNGI (1) – WONDER BOY (2) – APOLLO (7) – HEAL THE WORLD (12) – ETATIQUE (6)

Race 3 – PRIX DE VICHY –  1500m CL2. Purse EUR €26,000.

  1. HOXTON – Promising filly who last start finished 3 lengths away in third over 1300m here on the All Weather. Key chance.
  2. RISING UP – Improved sharply last time to break through for a maiden win over 1500m at this track. Don’t underestimate.
  3. MURANO – Recorded his maiden success last time out over 1600m at Pau All Weather. Shows promise and can figure in the finish again.
  4. BOZZO – Promising gelding who last start finished 4.5 lengths away in fifth over 1300m here on the All Weather. Worth including.
  5. AVERSA – Promising filly who last start finished 3.5 lengths away in third over 2000m here on the All Weather. Worth including.
  6. KNOCK ON – Impressed on debut last start at this track, recording a 1.5 lengths win over 1500m. Will need to go to a new level.
  7. RUN AHEAD – Progressive type who opened this prep in good style, scoring by 2.5 lengths over 1500m at this track. No reason she cannot keep the ball rolling. Top chance.

Summary: A tight looking conditions event where you couldn’t discount many of the seven. Slight preference is for RUN AHEAD (7) who impressed when winning a course and distance maiden by 2.5L last outing. Leading hope for a top yard. HOXTON (1) looks solid returning to turf on the back of a good 3L third behind a subsequent scorer here (1300m AW). Comfortable track and trip maiden winner RISING UP (2) needs respect with further progress possible and BOZZO (4) holds claims on the ratings.

Selections

RUN AHEAD (7) – HOXTON (1) – RISING UP (2) – BOZZO (4)

Race 4 – PRIX DES GENEVRIERS –  1300m CLM. Purse EUR €17,000.

  1. AL ET CHOP – Finished second two back then could only manage fifth last time over 1500m on turf here beaten 6 lengths. Can atone.
  2. SAGGEZZA – Bidding for a hat-trick of wins after scoring by 1.5 lengths over 1500m here on turf on January 31. Rates highly.
  3. BO LYWOOD – Hasn’t shown a great deal in two career runs, the most recent a sixth over 1300m at this track. Looking to others.
  4. BALLERINA – Last appeared when she finished second over 1500m on turf here on January 31. Another bold run is expected.
  5. KATALINA – Spanish raider who won at San Sebastian last season. Held thirteenth at Madrid last start but remains of interest. Market will prove a valuable guide.
  6. FORTUNE GOLD – Yet to find the frame in two runs to date, the latest effort a well-beaten seventh over 1300m at this track. Must improve sharply.
  7. GO JOHNNY GO GO GO – Ran a better race last start to finish fourth over 1300m at this track. In the mix.

Summary: SAGGEZZA (2) looks a solid option having beaten BALLERINA (4) into second in a 1500m claimer on turf here nine days ago. Top hope with the return to the AW no issue. The latter is respected once more and could have some improvement to offer on AW debut. GO JOHNNY GO GO GO (7) finished fourth behind the main selection over course and distance last month and should be on the premises. Spanish raider KATALINA (5) requires a market check.

Selections

SAGGEZZA (2) – BALLERINA (4) – GO JOHNNY GO GO GO (7) – KATALINA (5)
