Race Preview


Race 1 – PRIX VINCENT DE GOURNAY – 1600m CL2. Purse EUR €27,000.
1. WORTH A TEAM – Landed his maiden success last time out over 1600m at Clairefontaine. Can feature in the finish again.
2. ONCE UPON A TIME – Returned in good order last start beaten only half a length when second at Longchamp over 1400m. Looks hard to beat.
3. FLEXIBILITY – Good effort last start to win her maiden over 1350m at Senonnes-Pouance on just her second appearance by 3 lengths. Can go on with it.
4. LAS DES BOIS – Finished fourth last start at Saint Cloud over 1400m, 11 lengths from the winner. Tackles this longer journey for the first time. Among the better chances in this line up.
5. DIVINE CHRISNAT – Resumed over 1200m at Les Sables-D’olonne nine days ago when beaten 9 lengths into fifth. Unlikely to be competitive.
6. QUEEN SAO – Unraced filly by Authorized out of Sao Tome. Market check.
7. PRINCESS LAURA – Filly by Dabirsim out of Amour Eternel. Worth keeping safe.

Summary: ONCE UPON A TIME (2) changed trainer following a 0.5L second in a 1400m claimer at Longchamp. Taken to go one better second up. WORTH A TEAM (1) won by a nose in a maiden over this trip at Clairefontaine. Big threat for a good jockey and trainer combination. FLEXIBILITY (3) enters calculations on the back of a 3L triumph in a 1350m maiden at Senonnes. Supplemented runner LAS DES BOIS (4) holds claims down in grade having finished 11L fourth in a 1400m Class Two at Saint-Cloud.


Race 2 – PRIX ALAIN LEQUEUX – 1800m HCP CL4. Purse EUR €14,000.
1. MARKLAND – Finished ninth over 1800m at this track eight days ago, beaten 8 lengths. Capable of better.
2. LLOYD – Out of the money in recent runs including last time out when 12th over 2000m at Vichy two weeks ago, beaten 11 lengths. This is easier.
3. GORMLAITH – Not raced since finishing 11 lengths away in sixth over 1950m at Le Mans on May 23. Winning hope in a suitable contest.
4. TWIN BOY – Still a maiden after 35 starts but did finish second over 1800m at this track latest. Top-three contender.
5. SILVER AMERHICAN – Six-year-old stepping out for his 5th run back from a break looking to snap a poor run of current form. Cannot enthuse.
6. ADORATA – Last start sixth over 1800m at Dieppe. Can go well.
7. PAINT ISLAND – Latest effort a fourth over 1800m at Dieppe when beaten 3.5 lengths. Noted.
8. MADULAIN – Finished eighth beaten 3 lengths last start over 1600m at Vichy. Best watched.
9. VALENTINE MIST – Resuming. Didn’t make an impact when beaten 38 lengths into eighth over 1800m at this track in April. Maybe later.

Summary: TWIN BOY (4) delivered a 4.5L second in a course and distance handicap. Selected to register a first victory. GORMLAITH (3) has placed three times at this track. Threat here following an 11L sixth over 1950m at Le Mans. PAINT ISLAND (7) came home 3.25L fourth over this distance at Dieppe. Dangerous having run well on his only previous start at this venue. ADORATA (6) also holds claims having faded when 5L sixth in that Dieppe race.


1. L’AIGLE – Going well with a win at Amiens before finishing second over 1950m at Chateaubriant last time. Among the chances and expected to run well.
2. ICALERO – Not firing recently the latest effort a 6 length fourth over 1800m at this track on July 27. Looking to others for the winner.
3. SUAVE STORY – Scored at Amiens when resuming then a good effort to finish third five weeks ago at Longchamp over 1850m. Key chance.
4. ZHIVAGO – Held 14th over 1500m at Deauville All Weather on December 17. Looks tested this line-up.
5. GET SET – Last start finished third over 1800m at this track. Well placed this time and expected to be in the finish.
6. NAVIDAD – Solid effort last start when resuming, beaten a nose into second over 2000m at Le Lion-D’angers. Likely to measure up.
7. DEVERELL – Five-year-old who has made little impression lately. Not going well enough to threaten these.
8. VYSOTSKY – Better run last start when 1.5 lengths adrift in second over 1800m at Dieppe. Cannot be ruled out.
9. AINTREEGIRL – Below par at Clairefontaine then bounced back with a win over 1600m at Rochefort-Sur-Loire last time out. Contender.

Summary: L’AIGLE (1) is selected to defy top weight following a 2L second in a 1950m handicap at Chateaubriant. NAVIDAD (6) looks a threat on the back of a nose defeat when runner-up over 2000m at Le Lion-d’Angers. SUAVE STORY (3) enters calculations following a 1.75L third in an 1850m handicap at Longchamp. GET SET (5) came home 5L third in an 1800m conditions race here. Shortlist back in a handicap.


Race 4 – PRIX JOSEPH ET JOBIC SEVERE – 2500m . Purse EUR €20,000.
1. JIMMY DU SEUIL – Son of Galiway from Tulipe Du Seuil making his debut. Noted.
2. JARIV DES BRUYERES – Done little of late to suggest he can play a major role in this affair and would prefer to see.
3. JOHNIG – Kicked off his career on May 26 over 2400m at Saint Brieuc and finished 7 lengths away in fifth, his only appearance to date. Could have improved.
4. JOLY QASH – Improved on the debut performance last time out when fifth over 2300m at Corlay. With further improvement could play a major role.
5. JANLY – Made her debut over 2700m at Les Sables-D’olonne when runner-up. Top chance.
6. JETTA DES OBEAUX – Fair sixth over 2400m at Le Lion-D’angers. Likely improver who can play a role in the finish.
7. JANE EIRE HANA – Moderate seventh when beaten 13 lengths over 2300m at Senonnes-Pouance on debut. More needed.
8. JIXY – Resumed at Erbray over 2700m last time out and finished fifth, beaten 9 lengths. Chance.
9. JOLICALINE – Finished fourth over 2300m at Corlay on July 10. Big chance after a respectable effort last time out.

Summary: JANLY (5) showed plenty of ability when 8L second to an impressive winner over 2700m at Les Sables-d’Olonne on debut. Taken to go one better for a yard who do well in these races. JOLICALINE (9) rates at threat on the back of a 2.75L fourth in a 2300m contest at Corlay. JETTA DES OBEAUX (6) registered a 7L sixth in a 2400m event at Le Lion-d’Angers on debut. Shortlist. Galiway newcomer JIMMY DU SEUIL (1) is another with claims for a useful stable.


Race 5 – PRIX JULIEN BROSSAIS – 2500m CLM CL4 HCP. Purse EUR €14,000.
1. SHUT THE BOX – Well held of late including last start when 11th over 2900m at Clairefontaine. Prefer others.
2. AUZEBOSC – Tends to mix his form but improved last start to finish third over 2500m at this track. Can continue the positive form trend.
3. MDRACAFEU – Ran a better race last start to finish second at Clairefontaine over 2400m. Nicely placed and rates highly off that run. Top chance.
4. FLAWLESS LADY – Latest effort a seventh over 2200m at Longchamp two weeks ago. Place.
5. DALIGAR – Finished fourth, beaten 7 lengths, last start over 2100m at Savenay. Better placed and expected to go well.
6. IRISH STORM – Decent third at Amiens two starts ago then appeared at Argentan last time and finished 3 lengths from the winner in sixth. Chance.
7. HAPPY CHRISNAT – Solid third over 2500m at this track latest. Frame chance.
8. JECK YEAH – Not raced since finishing seventh over 2000m at Cagnes-Sur-Mer All Weather on February 16. Market check.
9. MONSIEUR GEORGE – Finished a mile back on his latest appearance over 3600m at Clairefontaine. Has the task ahead.
10. PREMIER AVRIL – Struggling to find form including last start when 6 lengths from the winner in 12th over 2500m at this track. Others preferred.

Summary: MDRACAFEU (3) placed second when beaten 1.5L in a 2400m claiming handicap at Clairefontaine. Looks up to going one better. AUZEBOSC (2) recorded a 0.25L third in a course and distance handicap. Expected to challenge for the win. DALIGAR (5) delivered a 7.5L fourth in a 2100m conditions event at Savenay. Consider for the win. IRISH STORM (6) is another with claims on the back of a 3L sixth in a 2100m amateur riders claiming handicap at Argentan.


Race 6 – PRIX ARQANA (PRIX DE TANCARVILLE) – 1200m UNR. Purse EUR €27,000.
1. BEYLERBEYI – Unraced son of Invincible Spirit out of a Shamardal mare. Obvious appeal for a top stable.
2. HAPPY HUNTER – Newcomer from the Markus Nigge yard. May need this.
3. DAMOISEAU – Eye-catching son of Starspangledbanner out of a Danehill mare. Leading prospects for this powerful yard.
4. WILLIAM TELL – 400,000eur purchase who is expected to play a leading role at the business end if given a market push.
5. BODYMAN – Territories colt from the Andrea Suborics stable. Worth a market check.
6. PROLETARIAT – Son of Fastnet Rock who may need more time to show best.

Summary: A small newcomers event where the betting is likely to offer plenty of clues. WILLIAM TELL (4) can score first time out after being purchased for 400,000eur. Top pick for notable connections. BEYLERBEYI (1) is a well-bred type as a son of Invincible Spirit out of a Shamardal mare. Key player. DAMOISEAU (3) and BODYMAN (5) would be respected if attracting any market support.
