Kenilworth Preview – 25 June

South Africa Horse Racing Previews: KENILWORTH@2022.06.25

Kenilworth, 25.06.2022, Race 1, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R70.000, 12:05GMT+2

Race Summary: Improving BEERENBERG produced a career-best effort over this track and trip when returning from a rest and gelding, so should play a leading role if making further progress in receipt of weight against older rivals. BULLITT is another likely improver after a pleasing course-and-distance debut and is best kept onside. CASTLE TIME, returning HEKNOWS, and the latter’s stable companion, BOISTEROUS BUDDY, have the form and experience to keep those younger rivals honest. Well-bred newcomers GIMME MORE TIME and NARINA TROGON have attractive pedigrees – watch the betting, respect market support.

#5 Beerenberg, #6 Bullitt, #8 Narina Trogon, #7 Gimme More Time

Kenilworth, 25.06.2022, Race 2, Gallops, 1500m, Turf, R150.000, 12:40GMT+2

Race Summary: Listed 2yo fillies feature. BONIKA arrives in good form and on pedigree should relish the step-up in distance. CALL ME THE BREEZE won an Eastern Cape maiden and will find this a lot tougher but is improving and could get into the picture. CAMILLE CLAUDEL wasn’t winning out of turn after consecutive seconds and will have more to offer stepped up in trip, which can also be said of CIAO BELLA and MISS MARGUERITE. Both PUCALLPA and SPYWING improved going 1400m for the first time and should do so again over the extra. They’re closely matched on form and could make their presence felt too. Tricky!

#1 Bonika, #9 Spywing, #8 Pucallpa, #7 Miss Marguerite

Kenilworth, 25.06.2022, Race 3, Gallops, 1500m, Turf, R250.000, 13:15GMT+2

Race Summary: Grade 3 feature that has attracted a quality field of 2yo colts and geldings. Dual stakes winner WE’RE JAMMING tries further and is likely to improve for it but will need some luck from the widest draw. Unbeaten CHARLES DICKENS is bred to enjoy the extra after 2 sprint wins and can fight out the finish. AT MY COMMAND is improving and should also appreciate the extra, so likely to make his presence felt too. Stablemate PORT LOUIS is closely matched so warrants the utmost respect. LORD WILLIAM, MARVEL WILLIAM and WECANGOALLNIGHT in first-time blinkers could improve to play a role. Good race!

#2 Charles Dickens, #9 We’Re Jamming, #1 At My Command, #6 Port Louis

Kenilworth, 25.06.2022, Race 4, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R150.000, 13:50GMT+2

Race Summary: Listed feature for fillies and mares. RAIN IN NEWMARKET is well-in under these conditions and should be competitive – can fight out the finish if jumping away on terms. Consistent stablemate VERONICA MARS is also favourably treated and ought to give another honest account back against her own sex. Last-start winners DO ANGELS CRY and SILVER SABRE race off career-high marks after but will strip fitter so should be competitive – respect. DUPLICITY, CELTIC NIGHT and FUSILLADE have been holding form and are capable of staking claims too.

#1 Rain In Newmarket, #2 Veronica Mars, #5 Silver Sabre, #4 Do Angels Cry

Kenilworth, 25.06.2022, Race 5, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R150.000, 14:25GMT+2

Race Summary: A Listed feature Brett Crawford and Ridgemont could dominate. KITTY CAT CHAT tired on her return from a rest but would’ve tightened up since that run and should have more to offer with improved fitness on her side. Last-start winner WALK OF FAME has enjoyed an ideal preparation and is primed to run well in her peak outing. Stablemate WHOA WHOA WHOA is an exciting prospect we’ve yet to see the best of. She returns from a layoff but does have a touch of class about her, which could see her make a winning reappearance. MAJOR ATTRACTION, PHIL’S DANCER and WINTER MOSAIC should chase home that trio.

#4 Whoa Whoa Whoa, #6 Walk Of Fame, #1 Kitty Cat Chat, #5 Winter Mosaic

Kenilworth, 25.06.2022, Race 6, Gallops, 2400m, Turf, R150.000, 15:00GMT+2

Race Summary: A small but competitive field. MARIA QUEROL and YOUNG LOVE took out the first two legs of the fillies’ winter series and could fight out the finish to the 3rd. Both are unexposed/untried over this distance but on pedigree could prove as effective going this trip. The former got the better of FLEETING last time out and there should little between the pair again on identical weight terms. PEUT ETRE MOI is closely matched on that form too and should make her presence felt once more. Glen Kotzen runners, WINTER SCOUT and HIGH DUDGEON, could improve going this trip – not without a chance either. Tricky!

#1 Maria Querol, #2 Young Love, #4 Fleeting, #5 Peut Etre Moi

Kenilworth, 25.06.2022, Race 7, Gallops, 2400m, Turf, R250.000, 15:35GMT+2

Race Summary: GEM KING impressed in the 2nd Leg, which followed his 1st Leg success, and will be hard to hold out if as effective over this distance. He sets the standard and is favourably treated by the conditions of the race so looks on course to add his name to the illustrious honour roll of Winter series ‘Triple Crown’ winners. WINCHESTER MANSION was outrun by that rival last time and appears held on the form of that race. BARATHEON was also beaten by the selection last time and is unlikely to turn the tables on identical weight terms. TOP QUALITY and GENTLEMAN JOE have scope and could get a look in.

#1 Gem King, #2 Winchester Mansion, #4 Top Quality, #3 Baratheon

Kenilworth, 25.06.2022, Race 8, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R120.000, 16:05GMT+2

Race Summary: Smart field of sprinters assembled. RESONATE ran on well to win a similar contest over 1100m last time out and will be better suited to this trip – can follow up. SPEED MACHINE returned to form behind that rival last time and is 2kg better off, so weighted to pose a threat, if in similar mood/form. BARNEY MCGREW is better off at the weights too but yet to show over this distance. Fellow last-start winner DOUBLE CHARGE returned to winning ways with blinkers refitted last time and can challenge the selection with the headgear, unsurprisingly, retained. TRANSACT and SURJAY have earning potential.

#1 Resonate, #5 Double Charge, #6 Surjay, #2 Speed Machine

Kenilworth, 25.06.2022, Race 9, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R70.000, 16:38GMT+2

Race Summary: SENHORA VICTORIA has earned in both since returning from a break and will feature prominently if making further progress in her peak outing. WAYWARD GIRL wasn’t disgraced behind male rivals last time and should have a say with a repeat of that effort against her own sex. AIR OF ROYALTY improved in her second start when stepped up to 1400m and is likely to play a leading role with the extra 200m likely to bring about further improvement. LUCY THE PINK has the form and experience to play a role too but stablemate LOVE IS A ROSE is preferred. She’ll enjoy the extra and and could represent value.

#9 Love Is A Rose, #4 Air Of Royalty, #1 Senhora Victoria, #10 Lucy The Pink

Best Win: #1 GEM KING

Best Value Bet: #9 LOVE IS A ROSE

Best Longshot: #9 LOVE IS A ROSE
