The Singapore Turf Club riding ranks have dealt a major blow after it was revealed that top jockey Ruan Maia will leave Kranji to continue his career in Hong Kong.
On Thursday afternoon, the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s licensing committee released a Club Jockey’s License for the period of March 1, 2021 to the end of the current 2020/21 racing season for the ‘Brazilian Ace’ Maia.
Maia’s imminent departure comes just one day after top trainer Cliff Brown announced he was turning off the lights on his Kranji career and returning home to Australia to train, with Hall of Fame trainer Lee Freedman also set to depart the Lion City in a matter of time.
It now seems a matter of when – not if – others will declare their Kranji departure.
