Kenilworth Preview – 18 November

Kenilworth, 18.11.2020, Race 1, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R46.000, 12:55GMT+2

Race Summary: A competitive race to open the meeting. ARCTIC ICE boasts solid form behind some useful sorts and was second over this trip last time out – one to beat. REAL ADVISOR filled the runner-up berth on debut, albeit in a work riders’ race – likely to pose a threat with natural improvement expected. LADY CATHERINE is one for the shortlist and wouldn’t be winning out of turn after being runner-up in 4 of her last 5 outings. AFTER THE STORM and GLACIER GOLD have earning potential. Pay careful attention to the betting as it will be a guide to newcomers VOICE NOTES and DUCHESS OF SUSSEX.

#2 Arctic Ice, #9 Real Advisor, #11 Voice Notes, #6 Duchess Of Sussex

Kenilworth, 18.11.2020, Race 2, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R46.000, 13:35GMT+2

Race Summary: Hard to oppose DOUBLE CHARGE who has shown improvement in each of the three starts since gelded. Expect another bold bid over this trip. Likely improver WARRIOR could pose the biggest threat if overcoming a wide draw. BUMRAH and HIKARU improved for the step up to this distance last time out. Both have scope for further progress. PICTURE THE MOMENT may have more to offer trying this distance and fresh after a break. TARA ITI could give a better account of himself second time out as a gelding.

#1 Double Charge, #13 Warrior, #10 Tara Iti, #7 Hikaru

Kenilworth, 18.11.2020, Race 3, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R46.000, 14:10GMT+2

Race Summary: FLASHLIGHT is unfavourably drawn but is open to improvement. VAL GARDENA is capable of racing nearer the speed from a better gate and could make her presence felt. KAROO WINTER had legitimate excuses for a disappointing last run and is undoubtedly capable of better, but she will have to be at her best to thwart the challenges of Bass-Robinson runners CHILE JAM and WILD CREATURE. GALLIC GIRL could earn a cheque while HOT MARMALADE could stake a claim too. PETRONELLA and TIME OFF are others to keep an eye on.

#4 Chile Jam, #5 Wild Creature, #3 Karoo Winter, #7 Golightly

Kenilworth, 18.11.2020, Race 4, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R46.000, 14:50GMT+2

Race Summary: HELEN’S IDEAL has been inconsistent lately but remains capable and is rated and weighted to be competitive despite an unconvincing record over 1800m. Top-weight CAPOEIRA is also favourably treated by the conditions but may lack fitness after a layoff. He has a good record racing fresh, however, and the jockey-trainer combo is in good form. Hat-trick seeking SEVENTH GEAR has a bit to find on those rivals but is progressive and has come into his own after gelding. Lightly raced KNIGHTS TEMPLAR, the pick of the Snaith runners on riding arrangements, is fitter so should be a factor at the finish.

#3 Seventh Gear, #6 Knights Templar, #1 Capoeira, #4 Love Happens

Kenilworth, 18.11.2020, Race 5, Gallops, 1950m, Turf, R46.000, 15:25GMT+2

Race Summary: DOUBLE REWARD and stablemate TWICETHEQUALITY were both ridden by Grant van Niekerk last time out. The former was narrowly beaten in a stronger field after a rest while the latter opened her account at the second attempt over 1600m. Last-start winner MARINA was a fluent maiden winner over 1600m and will relish going the extra. Both FYNBOS and WINTER’S AWAKENING are capable of improved efforts following respite from the handicapper. POWER GIRL could get into the action while RUBY RHYTHM is another to consider trying this trip for the first time.

#4 Marina, #1 Double Reward, #6 Twicethequality, #2 Fynbos

Kenilworth, 18.11.2020, Race 6, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R46.000, 16:00GMT+2

Race Summary: Smashing contest, featuring a number of fillies with Guineas aspirations. Judged on their meeting in the Grade 2 Western Cape Fillies Championship, DAZZLING SUN should have the measure of MARMALISA on similar weight terms. Both are smart sorts likely to improve and should be competitive. TWO PENNIES never got into the hunt in that 1400m feature but did have excuses and is worth another chance. Brett Crawford saddles three last-start winners, PINK TOURMALINE makes most appeal of those.

#7 Two Pennies, #2 Dazzling Sun, #3 Marmalisa, #4 Pink Tourmaline

Kenilworth, 18.11.2020, Race 7, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R46.000, 16:35GMT+2

Race Summary: Hard contest to assess. KZN raider VIA SALARIA won 4 of 5 starts after gelding. AQUA BOLT fluffed his lines in recent starts over 1000m but is better than those efforts suggest. A return to this trip could bring about a return to form. GAINSFORD has taken his form to another level with blinkers, winning back-to-back races over track and trip. He reeled in speedy MOON ROCK (2,5kg better off) to win last time and will need to raise his game again if he is to get the better of that rival on these revised terms. BRAVE TIGER and POWER GRID are honest and knocking hard.

#3 Gainsford, #8 Moon Rock, #1 Via Salaria, #2 Aqua Bolt

Kenilworth, 18.11.2020, Race 8, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R46.000, 17:10GMT+2

Race Summary: Highly regarded DOUBLE RAINBOW has only raced on the Poly, made a winning debut over this trip and had excuses for losing his unbeaten record last start. ALTER EGO must confirm the improvement shown last time when putting a modest effort behind him to win at the second attempt. FATEFUL and DOUBLE ALLIANCE are capable of earning a cheque but aren’t the most reliable. RADIANT LOVE is relatively unexposed and open to improvement on his return from a layoff. WHAT A MAN and ALASKAN NIGHT have the credentials to challenge for race honours.

#2 Double Rainbow, #6 What A Man, #7 Alaskan Night, #12 Matthew The King
