RACE 03 [TF0804]

On Monday, 12 October 2020, the Stewards questioned Jockey V Duric in regards to his riding of WAR PRIDE on the above race and in particular his level of vigour in the straight.

Evidence was taken from Jockey Duric and Trainer J Ong, the Trainer of WAR PRIDE.

After viewing the Stewards’ footage of the race in question and comparing his riding with Race 8 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting, Jockey Duric stated that he was of the opinion that he had tested both his mounts out strongly with the only difference being in Race 8, he had used the whip in a backhand manner.

Trainer J Ong expressed satisfaction with Jockey Duric’s riding of the gelding.

After considering all of the evidence, the Stewards took no direct action against Jockey Duric but advised him that should his riding style deviate from his established pattern of riding, the Stewards may look to take action against him.

RACE 05 [TF0806]

The inquiry into the handling of WELL DESERVED (App M Nizar) in Race 5 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Saturday, 10 October 2020 was concluded on Monday, 12 October 2020.

After taking evidence from App M Nizar (pictured) and Trainer J Peters, the Trainer of WELL DESERVED, App Nizar pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) in that he failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The specifics of the charge being:

  • That from the 800m to the 500m, he failed to attempt to improve his position while racing at the tail of the field; and
  • That from the 500m until the 200m, he failed to ride with sufficient vigour and determination.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account App Nizar’s level of riding experience, the nature of the charge, guilty plea and clear disciplinary record.  In all the circumstances, App Nizar’s Licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two months from Tuesday, 13 October 2020 until Saturday 12 December 2020, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
