Durbanville Preview – 6 October

Durbanville, 06.10.2020, Race 1, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R46.000, 12:00GMT+2

Race Summary: Competitive opener. CAMPS BAY was in contention for much of the way on debut over this course and distance recently – should come on for the run, can fight it out. Both SHORT CUT and QUE ES VAR made expected improvement in a recent meeting after modest introductions – the latter has a bit to find on that meeting and the booking of Grant van Niekerk could give for the former the edge again. SNOW SUMMIT stopped late on debut but was heavily backed on that occasion and is probably better than his finishing position suggests – respect. FIGHTER, ALPHA PAPPA and I DID WHAT I DID have claims too.

#6 Camps Bay, #8 Short Cut, #7 Que Es Var, #2 Alpha Pappa

Durbanville, 06.10.2020, Race 2, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R46.000, 12:35GMT+2

Race Summary: KAYC AL disappointed when well supported last time out but that was in heavy going – should enjoy firmer conditions and worth another chance. EVERGLOW wasn’t beaten far over track and trip last time and likely improver, PETRONELLA, is also likely to improve stepped up in trip. They can get into the action, too. BAD REPUTATION, CAPTAIN’S DRIFT, SO FLAWLESS and TIME OFF should also all be wiser to the task after their introductions and could get a look in. Respect any market support for the newcomers, especially well-bred Dynasty filly TWO PENNIES. Good race!

#9 Kayc Al, #8 Everglow, #13 Two Pennies, #6 Captain’s Drift

Durbanville, 06.10.2020, Race 3, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R46.000, 13:10GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky. CLOUD SEEDER and LOOK FOR HOUNDS fluffed their lines last time in heavy underfoot conditions – both capable of better and could make amends if rediscovering earlier form. CARLO COLLODI won’t be a maiden for too long after 2 promising sprint displays – further improvement expected over this trip, one to beat. GIMME A DANCER wasn’t disgraced on debut behind highly rated stable companion Star Of The South – can only improve for the experience, warrants respect. MACH FOUR has earning potential, as do well-bred Kotzen-trained newcomers COMIN HOME and FIRSTAMONGEQUALS. Watch the betting!

#5 Carlo Collodi, #11 Look For Hounds, #1 Cloud Seeder, #9 Gimme A Dancer

Durbanville, 06.10.2020, Race 4, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R46.000, 13:45GMT+2

Race Summary: SOMERSET MAUGHAM returned a well-beaten odds-on favourite last time, but was probably inconvenienced by heavy underfoot conditions – should enjoy racing on a firmer track and could make amends. Will need to bring his A-game to get the better of likely improver HIS CHOICE who caught the eye on debut – stayed on well over 1250m, suggesting there’ll be more to come stepped up in trip. TRIPPLE JET was used up early to overcome a wide draw when last seen, so better can be expected from a favourable draw. SMILEATTHESUNSET finished ahead but has a wide barrier to negotiate. Consider BLINKING and COROMANDEL.

#2 Somerset Maugham, #9 His Choice, #13 Tripple Jet, #12 Smileatthesunset

Durbanville, 06.10.2020, Race 5, Gallops, 1250m, Turf, R46.000, 14:20GMT+2

Race Summary: This is a hot little heat as a case can be made for most of these. BOOMPS A DAISY runs well under these conditions – won’t be at her sharpest after a break but worthy of consideration/inclusion nonetheless. KATHLEEN thrives at this track. Her running style and an in-form 4kg claimer up should stand her in good stead. ALSFLAMINGBEAUTY is proven at this level of the handicap and will make her presence felt. LA QUINTA, CHAT CHING and VERONICA MARS are exciting 3yo fillies, all won on debut and remain unexposed – the latter was 3rd in a subsequent feature, though, so is marginally preferred. Good betting race!

#8 Veronica Mars, #2 Kathleen, #4 La Quinta, #3 Alsflamingbeauty

Durbanville, 06.10.2020, Race 6, Gallops, 1250m, Turf, R46.000, 14:55GMT+2

Race Summary: Cracking contest. Unbeaten INVINCABELLE made light of smart sorts as a 2yo and has a bright future. He can expect a stern examination of his ability and wellbeing from several of these hard knockers but could prove up to defending his unblemished record and can look forward to bigger targets in the summer season. Both PHOTOCOPY and MISTER VARGUS are likely threats at a track they do well. Gelded PINKERTON won a similar contest last time and should make his presence felt too. POWER GRID and PINK FLOYD aren’t without chances either in what is a must-watch race for all racing purists!

#7 Invincabelle, #3 Mister Vargus, #5 Pinkerton, #8 Power Grid

Durbanville, 06.10.2020, Race 7, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R46.000, 15:25GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky. DRAMA QUEEN is nearing a competitive mark and showing signs of rediscovering for. Can play a role. Both SECRET DEPTHS and QUICKSTEP LADY are consistent so neither would be winning out of turn. CRUISE ALONG is probably at her best up to 1400m but could be delivered late if the race is run to suit – respect. CATCHAFALLINGSTAR and FYNBOS would prefer further to be seen at their best, but both are capable of staking a claim in the outcome, racing fresh after a break. MEET AT THE GEORGE is lightly raced and unexposed over this trip, so could improve trying the extra to emerge victorious. Hmm?!

#9 Meet At The George, #6 Quickstep Lady, #1 Drama Queen, #2 Secret Depths

Durbanville, 06.10.2020, Race 8, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R46.000, 16:05GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky. Stable companions DIPLADENIA and TWICETHEQUALITY were winners last time out over this trip having been separated by just 0,3 lengths in an earlier meeting – they renew rivalry on similar terms, so there shouldn’t be much between the pair again. The form of the latter’s win was boosted by the 2nd horse SCENTED MISTRESS winning next time out. However, a poor draw does no favours to that rival’s chances. BALLROOM BLISS is likely to pose a bigger threat as she will have more to offer after a comeback win over shorter. MUSICAL GLITCH must raise her game to feature. Others have claims!

#11 Ballroom Bliss, #7 Twicethequality, #4 Dipladenia, #8 Musical Glitch

Durbanville, 06.10.2020, Race 9, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R46.000, 16:45GMT+2

Race Summary: Well-bred STAR OF THE SOUTH was spoken of in glowing terms by trainer and jockey after shedding his maiden tag over 1400m last time out and any amount of improvement can be expected from this highly regarded Dynasty colt on his handicap debut. Like stablemate Invincabelle earlier, he will be tested by these rivals but could still prove equal to the task. MASTER OF POWER, REX UNION, ZO LUCKY and RED LARK represent those unexposed rivals who could stake a claim, while hard-knockers GOLD MEDAL, LUCKY DANCER, CYBER LAW and TOP RANK represent the older brigade who will keep the selection honest.

#6 Star Of The South, #2 Gold Medal, #9 Zo Lucky, #13 Red Lark
