Kenilworth Preview – 11 January

Kenilworth, 11.01.2020, Race 1, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R70.000, 13:00GMT+2

Race Summary: Great raceday. ASHANTI found support on debut and ran accordingly, showing pace before tiring late. She would have come on since and could prove too hard to peg back. Well-bred LILAC SENSATION returns from a rest during which she would have strengthened, so could pose a threat with improvement likely. BAD HABIT wouldn’t be winning out of turn either after 3 consecutive seconds.

#8 Ashanti, #1 Lilac Sensation, #2 Bad Habit, #3 Cyber Blossom

Kenilworth, 11.01.2020, Race 2, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R80.000, 13:35GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky start to exotics. STUCK ON YOU finished behind well-related THOMAS HENRY (backed) on debut and improved with that experience to finish ahead of well-bred stable companion ERIK THE RED next time. With further progress, she should be competitive in receipt of weight. Respect any market support for  newcomers ATKINSON GRIMSHAW, TIMES NEW ROMAN and TRIPPIN THE STARS.

#5 Thomas Henry, #7 Stuck On You, #2 Erik The Red, #1 Atkinson Grimshaw

Kenilworth, 11.01.2020, Race 3, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R70.000, 14:10GMT+2

Race Summary: FLOWERSCAPE and AL’S MY DADDY make most appeal on exposed form. The former is more experienced than most which will stand him in good stead. ANECDOTE and PANNINGTON are improving, they are closely matched and likely to be in the mix with further progress. DOUBLE CHARGE, HALF AND HALF and SILVER SKY are bred to improve too going this trip. NAMAQUALAND has stamina concerns. Open

#6 Al’s My Daddy, #1 Flowerscape, #3 Anecdote, #10 Pannington

Kenilworth, 11.01.2020, Race 4, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R110.000, 14:45GMT+2

Race Summary: Big guns collide. Equus champ KASIMIR won’t be fully tuned but needn’t be under favourable conditions and should run well fresh. PACIFIC TRADER will behard to peg back though and can play a leading role after a winning seasonal comeback. CHIMICHURI RUN is closely macthed with that rival on their Computaform Sprint meeting. Consistent BOLD RESPECT is capable of upstaging them.

#1 Kasimir, #3 Pacific Trader, #2 Chimichuri Run, #4 Bold Respect

Kenilworth, 11.01.2020, Race 5, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R350.000, 15:20GMT+2

Race Summary: Several of these hope to secure a Met berth. EYES WIDE OPEN should strip a fitter horse so could have a say, though the same applies to DYNASTY’S BLOSSOM who pleased on her reappearance. CHARLES has come on after gelding and iscapable of playing a role too. Stablemates BELGARION and NEXUS are in winning form and should also be competitive. HERODOTUS also has earning potential.

#6 Belgarion, #1 Eyes Wide Open, #4 Charles, #5 Dynasty’s Blossom

Kenilworth, 11.01.2020, Race 6, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R1.000.000, 16:05GMT+2

Race Summary: SNAPSCAN made light work of a few of these rivals when winning a track-and-trip Grade 3 last time. MIYABI GOLD and stable companion SILVANO’S PRIDE should get closer to that rival on these terms, though. FRONT AND CENTRE is back to her best and will be hard to hold out. Highveld raider QUEEN SUPREME has the form and ability to pose a threat. Respect DRIVING MISS DAISY. Top race

#3 Front And Centre, #8 Queen Supreme, #6 Snapscan, #1 Miyabi Gold

Kenilworth, 11.01.2020, Race 7, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R1.500.000, 16:45GMT+2

Race Summary: This ‘Clash Of The Titans’ has the makings of a classic. Both DO IT AGAIN (had excuses) and RAINBOW BRIDGE are entitled to improvement after pipe-openers in the Green Point, which was won impressively by rising star VARDY who will have to raise his game again to get the better of ONE WORLD. Star miler SOQRAT and stablemate HAWWAAM have done little wrong and should be involved.

#4 Hawwaam, #3 Soqrat, #5 Vardy, #1 Do It Again

Kenilworth, 11.01.2020, Race 8, Gallops, 2500m, Turf, R200.000, 17:20GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky staying event which will be determined by the pace. DHARMA was allowed to dictate under a light weight last time but may not get his own way here. CAT DADDY, CROME YELLOW and SAINT WEST stay the trip well and should get closer to that rival on these terms, while GIMME ONE NIGHT is weighted to turn the tables. Likely improver DOUBLEMINT has the credentials to outstay them

#2 Doublemint, #5 Gimme One Night, #6 Cat Daddy, #8 Crome Yellow

Kenilworth, 11.01.2020, Race 9, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R85.000, 17:55GMT+2

Race Summary: Stablemates RIO QUERARI and BAYBERRY have both the form and ability to win a race of this nature but must overcome wide draws to do so. The former went close in a lucrative sales race last time but preference is for the unexposed and well-bred latter who will enjoy the longer run-in. CABO DA CRUZ and ORAKAL are in good form and likely to have say too. Respect MERAKI and SAVVY

#13 Bayberry, #2 Rio Querari, #1 Cabo Da Cruz, #7 Orakal

Kenilworth, 11.01.2020, Race 10, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R77.500, 18:30GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky end to the card and sophisticated 2-day spectacle. Jockey Winnaar (father) and apprentice Solomons (son) represent the Kotzen yard on course-and-distance specialist CELTIC VOYAGER and filly MY WICKED WAYS (4kg off) respectively, and both could have a say in the outcome. MR COBBS has gone close twice at this level and could win. REGIMENTAL and MISTER VARGUS are capable.

#5 Mr Cobbs, #1 Celtic Voyager, #7 My Wicked Ways, #2 Mister Vargus
