The Kranji Mile (1600m) will be run as an International Group 3 race from next year.

Revamped in the last two years as a domestic Group 1 race with an Invitational status open to a restricted number of overseas runners, the Kranji Mile was given the seal of approval to its raised status from Listed Restricted to International Group 3 by the Asian Pattern Committee of the Asian Racing Federation on October 2.

The approval was thereafter endorsed by the International Grading and Race Planning Advisory Committee (IRPAC) in Paris on October 5 and was ratified by the Society of International Thoroughbred Auctioneers (SITA) on November 5.

Formerly slated as the first Leg to the Singapore Triple Crown series, the Kranji Mile was shifted out from the series and elevated as an Invitational race in 2017, with the objective of eventually becoming an International Group race, in a bid to restore international racing in Singapore.

The two editions of the Kranji Mile in 2017 and 2018, both run in May as a glamour Saturday twilight meeting alongside the domestic Group 1 Lion City Cup (1200m), were captured by top overseas invader from Hong Kong, Southern Legend.

The 2020 International Group 3 Kranji Mile is scheduled for May 23, 2020, with the Lion City Cup run on the same night.
