RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: DURBANVILLE@2019.10.19

Durbanville, 19.10.2019, Race 1, Gallops, 1250m, Turf, R80.000, 13:30GMT+2

Race Summary: FREEDOM SEEKER was all at sea on debut but looked a winner in waiting once the penny had dropped. She will be wiser to the task and, with natural improvement expected, should go close. AYE AYE was only pegged back late over thecourse and distance last time when returning from a break. She will strip fitter so should have more to offer. Watch the betting on the newcomers!

Selections:

#4 Freedom Seeker, #1 Aye Aye, #6 Signature Tune, #2 Sweet Karma

Durbanville, 19.10.2019, Race 2, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R86.000, 14:05GMT+2

Race Summary: Good race. PATH OF CHOICE followed up his maiden win with another success on handicap debut, when getting the better of SAVVY who is weighted to turn the tables. However, stable jockey Fourie deserts the latter in favour of well-bred stable companion and recent maiden winner WILD COAST, which suggests that runner is preferred. PINK FLOYD and HARDFALLINGRAIN have place chances.

Selections:

#6 Wild Coast, #5 Path Of Choice, #3 Savvy, #1 Pink Floyd

Durbanville, 19.10.2019, Race 3, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R80.000, 14:40GMT+2

Race Summary: HOW AND WHY had the benefit of a run when finishing ahead of LOOKS LIKE MAGIC. Both fillies have confirmed the promise of that meeting with smart subsequent outings and, with improvement, should go close over this trip. EVENING SONG has found her niche racing around the bend and is likely to pose a threat. OVER THE WAY could have a say too with 4kg off her back.

Selections:

#6 Looks Like Magic, #2 How And Why, #3 Evening Song, #1 Over The Way

Durbanville, 19.10.2019, Race 4, Gallops, 1250m, Turf, R80.000, 15:15GMT+2

Race Summary: Open. IRON HENRY is entitled to improvement after a pleasing local debut when finishing ahead of SPY, so should be competitive. EMPIRE GLORY went closeover track and trip recently but must confirm to feature. CAPKUTA has been expensive to follow but is overdue a maiden win and if not in need of the run should be in the mix. FUNDRAISER and BROOKLYN’S CHOICE have claims too.

Selections:

#5 Capkuta, #3 Iron Henry, #8 Brooklyn’s Choice, #1 Spy

Durbanville, 19.10.2019, Race 5, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R100.000, 15:50GMT+2

Race Summary: Good race. Stable companions STAR FIGHTER and MISS PLUMCAKE pleased on their seasonal reappearances and with fitness should have more to offer, though the same could also be said of well-bred WATER SPIRIT. Progressive DUCHESS OF BOURBON is closely matched on form with STAR FIGHTER. She may prefer further but should run well fresh. SNAPSCAN and CASTELLANO are both capable sorts.

Selections:

#2 Star Fighter, #4 Duchess Of Bourbon, #8 Water Spirit, #5 Miss Plumcake

Durbanville, 19.10.2019, Race 6, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R120.000, 16:30GMT+2

Race Summary: TWIST OF FATE was consistent at the highest level as a 3yo and need not be fully tuned to make a winning reappearance on these terms. CHARLES (gelded) and MAJESTIC MOZART weren’t as successful but could have more to offer this term. SACRED ARROW and READY STEADY GO were behind NEW CALEDONIA in a Gr. 3 over track and trip but could turn the tables. CATKIN has earning potential.

Selections:

#1 Twist Of Fate, #4 Sacred Arrow, #2 Charles, #3 Majestic Mozart

Durbanville, 19.10.2019, Race 7, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R80.000, 17:05GMT+2

Race Summary: Small but competitive field. WINTER IS OVER was a short-priced favourite when finishing behind staying-on MORSE over shorter recently. Both are bred toenjoy the extra so there’s little reason for the tables to be turned. IN AURO was not far off that pair after running on from a hopeless position (widedraw), so could get the better of both over the extra from an inside gate.

Selections:

#7 In Auro, #2 Morse, #3 Winter Is Over, #1 Good To Know

Durbanville, 19.10.2019, Race 8, Gallops, 2400m, Turf, R86.000, 17:45GMT+2

Race Summary: ANSE LAZIO was caught flatfooted in a small field by frontrunning stable companion METROPOLITAN in a similar contest over track and trip but a genuine pace in a field of this size should see him return to winning ways. MELIORA, SAINT WEST and WINTER SHADOW are closely matched and can make their presence felt, while recent maiden winner KHOPESH may have more to offer this trip

Selections:

#1 Anse Lazio, #2 Metropolitan, #11 Meliora, #5 Khopesh

Best Win: #1 TWIST OF FATE

Best Value Bet:

Best Longshot: #2 STAR FIGHTER
