Defending Macau champion jockey Ruan Maia raced away with consecutive titles at Taipa racecourse last Sunday while K.M. Chin secured his first ever champion trainers’ title.

After smashing his rivals with 60 wins to next best on 39 last season, Brazilian hoop Maia bested his tally to reach 71 wins this year with compatriot Luis Corrales finishing second on 52. Maia has proven a consistent jockey to follow over the past two seasons, boasting a 21 per cent win strike rate each term while also hovering around the 50 per cent place strike rate.

Former champion jockey W.L. Ho finished in third position on 43 wins for the season while former Kranji-based jockey Oscar Chavez checked home in fourth position on 30 wins.

HK-born, British national Chin landed the trainers’ title with 52 wins to S.H. Cheong’s 41, more than doubling his hauls of wins since becoming a trainer in the 2014-15 season. Chin finished the season with a 14 per cent win strike rate and 37 per cent place strike rate.

The 2019/20 Macau racing season will commence of Saturday, September 7.
