Singapore Turf Club Press Release

The Singapore Turf Club has granted Australian jockey Glen Boss a one-day visiting jockey’s licence to ride at the Stewards’ Cup meeting on 30 June.

Boss, 49, has been booked by trainer Lee Freedman to ride Circuit Mission in the Group 2 Stewards’ Cup (1600m).

The Australian Hall of Fame jockey recently cut short his six-month Singapore licence after spending three successful years at Kranji to bring up his total local tally to 155 winners, including three winners at the old Bukit Timah track at his very first stint in 1996.

Boss enjoyed his best season in 2017 when he finished fourth on the jockeys’ premiership on 51 winners, and currently sits in seventh place on 18 winners.

Boss has ridden close to 2,700 winners in 31 years of an illustrious career that began in Gympie in rural Queensland to Gold Coast, before moving to Sydney and eventually Melbourne where he won the champion jockey title in the 2013-2014 season.

Since his first Group 1 winner Telesto in the Chipping Norton Stakes in 1994, Boss has gone on to add 87 more Group 1 wins, the most famous being his record three back-to-back Melbourne Cups in 2003/04/05 aboard champion mare Makybe Diva. Boss also won three Cox Plates and two Golden Slippers, with only the Caulfield Cup missing from Australian racing’s Grand Slam.

While still based in Singapore back in April, he flew in for one of his frequent hit-and-run visits back home to notch a seventh Group 1 Doncaster Mile with Brutal for Hawkes Racing at Randwick.

In Singapore, Boss won his first feature race in 2010 with Risky Business for trainer Steven Burridge in the Group 1 Longines Singapore Gold Cup. He went on to add 10 more Group wins at Kranji, including four at Group 1 level – the Queen Elizabeth II Cup with Laughing Gravy (2016), two Patron’s Bowls with Well Done (2016) and Alibi (2017) and the Lion City Cup (2018) with Lim’s Cruiser.
