Corey Brown injury update

Corey Brown remains in hospital after a horrific fall in the Queensland Derby.
Former Singapore-based jockey Corey Brown remains in the Royal Brisbane Hospital following his fall in Saturday’s Queensland Derby.

The Australian Jockeys’ Association released an update on Brown’s condition earlier today, which states doctors have assessed Brown to dertmine the extent of his lower back injuries.

Furthermore, Brown has movement of his arms and legs and has been cleared of having any head injuries.

It was reported, however, that doctors would operate on Brown on Sunday afternoon to stabilize a fractured C7 vertebra. Brown also has a fractured sternum and a small puncture to his lung.

Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Brown was involved in a incident in the home straight of the Queensland Derby, which resulted in Lord Arthur breaking down at the 300m mark.

Stewards reported that Lord Arthur sustained a fracture to the near hind leg and was euthanised on humane grounds.

The Queensland Derby was won by Mr Quickie, who had to survive a protest from runner-up Vow And Declare.
