Sha Tin Track Spy – May 5

Race 6 Number 7 Bellagio

Has his first start for trainer Ricky Yiu after having five starts with trainer Michael Freedman for one placing, never beaten far. Last start, however, was full of merit and much better than it reads after winding up late before having to be restrained close to the line which could have cost him a placing, finishing fourth 1 ¼ lengths away.

He is first-up and his trials suggest he is relishing Yiu’s yard, and a good fresh run can be expected on Sunday with a win seemingly imminent.

Race 11 Number 2 Silver Fig

Looked desperately unlucky last start when going down as the short-priced favourite when badly held up from the 300m to passing the 200m. Eventually, once finding clear galloping room, he rallied late to check home into third, beaten a half-length.

Third-up this week and he should be ready to peak and looks a good chance of being in the money with even luck.

Race 6 Number 5 California Legend

Last start he was ridden off the speed which was contrary to his two starts prior when settling on pace. Off a very slow early speed, it was a dash to the line, and he didn’t stand a chance of being in the money, but his last 400m (23.42 sec) was full of merit as the fourth best in the race.

Race 11 Number 9 Yichun Blitz

Has been a model of consistency and continues to post impressive late splits, most recently settling too far back off a dawdling tempo but defying that by flying home into third.
